Cardinals Win, 5-3
|
The Chicago Cubs got a sterling performance from pitcher Tom Glavine, but the St. Louis Cardinals still prevailed, 5-3. Glavine threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Brendan Donnelly, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Jason Pierson collected his 1st save.
Mike Gulan, the 1995 Most Valuable Player Award winner , had a direct impact on the outcome. Gulan contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put St. Louis up, 2-1.
"The vibe's good," said St. Louis manager Geoffrey Jones. "We've got to keep it going."
The Cubs have now dropped 5 straight.
