Robin Ventura was instrumental in his team's 7-3 triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies. The first baseman was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 2 for the New York Mets. Butch Henry, the winning pitcher, improved to 7-6. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. New York now sits at 63-29, while Philadelphia falls to 53-39.
Ventura contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for New York in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Ventura took a fastball from Jonathan Moya and stroked the home run to left-center. His 20th home run of the season allowed the Mets to leap in front, 4-3.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Ventura told the New York Observer. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
