Giants Beat San Diego, 2-1
|
San Francisco right-hander Jose Arias helped his team edge San Diego by the score of 2-1. Arias kept the opposing lineup in check. San Francisco reliever Jose Ortiz picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Bob Carlson took the loss. The Giants move to 60-52 with the win, while the Padres drop to 48-64.
San Francisco relied on the bat of Britton Scheibe to get the win. The right fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Giants ahead, 2-1. For the game, Scheibe had 1 double and 1 home run in 6 at-bats.
During his postgame press conference, Giants manager Chris SF GM told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
