The Kansas City Royals withstood an impressive performance by Milwaukee center fielder Chris Richard to defeat the Brewers, 6-4, at County Stadium. Richard was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Shawn Estes earned the win to go to 5-1. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Kansas City leads the AL American League Central by 5½ games.
Kansas City used a clutch hit from Anthony Sanders to get the win. The center fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Royals ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Sanders.
