Yankees Come Back Late to Top White Sox, 3-1
|
New York Yankees pitcher Mark Nussbeck was in fine form, leading his team past the Chicago White Sox, 3-1. Chris Marchok, credited with the win, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. Todd Rizzo collected save number 16.
New York took a 3-1 lead on Bill Spiers's 14th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Spiers hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Chicago pitcher Jose Lima shaking his head.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Spiers told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
New York is now 39-26, 5½ games up in the AL American League East.
