Red Sox Win Nail-Biter
|
Boston and California left the crowd in suspense until the final out.
California pitcher Pedro Massari gave the Red Sox all they could handle, but in the end, Boston left Anaheim Stadium with a win, 2-1. Massari allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 9 innings. Victor Ramirez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Rafael Betancourt was tagged with the loss.
Boston used the timely hitting of Jeff Reed to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 14th inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Jeffrey Schofield, the Boston skipper.
With the win, the Red Sox have a record of 51-58.
