Reds, Surhoff Pin Bad Loss on Pirates

The Cincinnati Reds had no problem beating the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-1, at Riverfront Stadium. B J Surhoff led the way. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for Cincinnati. Francisco Torres got the win, improving to 17-7. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 3. The Reds improve their record to 95-59 with the win over Pittsburgh.
With Cincinnati leading 8-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Surhoff came up to bat against Pittsburgh pitcher Steve Montgomery. Surhoff hit a fastball to right for a 3-run home run. His 13th home run of the season put the Reds on top, 11-1.
"It was a good win," said Cincinnati manager B. Boyd. "Not without blemish, but good."
