Athletics Stop Coleman at 23
Saturday, August 30th , 1997
Boston left fielder Ronnie Coleman came into today's game against the Oakland Athletics on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.

The Athletics did their jobs well, beating the Boston Red Sox 4-2 and holding Coleman hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old left fielder had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."

"What Ronnie did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Red Sox manager Jeffrey Schofield. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

Coleman is batting at a .340 pace this season, picking up 143 hits in 421 at-bats with 10 home runs, 46 RBIs and 73 runs scored.
