The cheering could be heard all over Henderson as the Black Sox secured the final out of a 4-1 win over the Sioux Falls Packers to capture the 1997 Northern League Round 1 4-3. It was the 3rd time in the team's history to win it.

"The Packers are a good ballclub," said winning skipper Jim R Campbell. "We had to play at our best to beat them."

During the season, the new champs compiled a 103-37 record in the Northern League and finished in second place in the standings.

"Anytime you make big plays, it changes the momentum of the game," said Richard Dare, manager of the Packers. "The Black Sox made 'em and we didn't -- end of story."
