Tuesday, September 30th , 1997
Jerrod Riggan of the Sioux Falls Packers said he never set out to win the Northern League Reliever of the Year Award this season, but he'll certainly take it.

"1997 was a pretty good year for me, that much is obvious," he said. "This is icing on the cake."

The 24-year-old out of Brewster, Massachusetts fashioned a 0.47 ERA this season over 57.2 innings of work. He made 45 relief appearances and had 21 saves, 34 strikeouts, 12 walks and a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

He received 8 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Chris Cabaj of the Duluth-Superior Dukes finished second in voting, while Jim Stoops of the Henderson Black Sox finished third.
