Mariners Sting Twins, 2-1
|
The Minnesota Twins wasted an inspired, 8-inning effort from starter Roger Clemens, falling 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. Jack Chesbro earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record is now 5-1. Getting the save was Gene Ford, his 9th.
Seattle took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, Al Wingo stroked a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Mariners.
"We did just enough to win," Wingo said.
The Mariners, at 21-17, sit in third place in the American League West Division.
