Mariners Prevail, 4-2, Over Pittsburgh
|
The Seattle Mariners stymied the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-2, at Safeco Field. Al Wingo had a good day at the plate. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 for Seattle. Seattle reliever Erasmo Ramirez picked up the win to move to 2-2. Jim Whitney suffered the loss. With the win, Seattle upped its record to 55-53.
In the top of the ninth, Dale Murphy stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Pirates were trailing 4-2, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Scott Sanders made a terrific pitch and Murphy struck out. Gone was the dream of a Pittsburgh comeback.
