McGwire Stars for Twins in 11-8 Win
A 6-RBI performance from first baseman Mark McGwire, who is tied for 5th in the AL in home runs with 42, led the Minnesota Twins to a win over the Seattle Mariners, 11-8. The winning pitcher was Sandy Alcantara. His record is now 6-6. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits for the Twins. Minnesota now owns a record of 69-86.

With Minnesota leading 6-2 in the top of the seventh, McGwire came up to bat against Seattle pitcher George Chalmers. McGwire hit a fastball to left for a grand slam home run. His 42nd home run of the season put the Twins on top, 10-2.

"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Twins," said McGwire.
