Carroll Leads Phillies to Win
|
The bad news for the Nashville Stars: an opening day loss, 7-5, to the Philadelphia Phillies at Nationals Park. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than Corbin Carroll. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Frank Pastore, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Nashville to 5 runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. The save was credited to Bob Grim, his 1st.
With Philadelphia leading 3-0 in the top of the second, Carroll hit a changeup from Andy Coakley for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 5-0.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Carroll told the Philadelphia Today.
