Red Sox Get 12-4 Win Versus New York
|
The Boston Red Sox topped the New York Yankees, 12-4, in American League action at Fenway Park. The standout performance belonged to Boston pitcher and The United States, native Larry French. French, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 11, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The Red Sox, now 4-2, have been playing some good baseball.
The Red Sox got a big hit from left fielder Jim Rice. Facing New York pitcher Lee Viau in the bottom of the eighth, Rice pounded a 3-run home run to right. His 1st home run of the season put the Red Sox ahead, 12-4.
"Larry was able to execute his pitches," said Boston manager Charles Parietti. "Simple as that."
