Cubs Fall to Giants, 7-1
|
The San Francisco Giants topped the Chicago Cubs by the score of 7-1, with the largest share of the credit going to catcher Michael Engelberg. Engelberg was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Giants. Matt Beech, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. The win puts San Francisco at 16-10.
San Francisco right fielder Bobby Abreu contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 20th hit of the season and put the Giants ahead, 1-0.
Engelberg expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
