Mets Earn 4-2 Road Win Over San Francisco
|
The New York Mets faced a tough opponent in San Francisco pitcher Jose Gonzalez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Candlestick Park by a final score of 4-2. Gonzalez went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Shawn Peterson, who is tied for 6th in the NL in holds with 6, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-5. The losing pitcher was Willie Gongales. The setback makes San Francisco 38-31.
New York used the clutch hitting of Jim Meehan to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Mets the lead, 3-2. For the game, Meehan had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"I try to not think too much," said Meehan.
