And that was all she wrote on the 1995 SRR Championship Series. With a 8-1 victory, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers swept aside the Lake County Captains 4-0 and set off a much-anticipated celebration.

"It was a lot of hard work," said winning manager . "But it was good hard work and a lot of fun along the way."

The Woodpeckers were all business this year, with their eyes fixed squarely on the goal of winning the team's 3rd championship. The champs finished the regular season 53-9 and claimed first place in the Southern League South-Atlantic Division.

"We had our doubters along the way," series MVP Dave Matson said with a smile. "But we made them eat crow today."
