Yankees Beaten By Blue Jays, 2-1
|
The Blue Jays grabbed a win, 2-1, at Yankee Stadium I, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Phil Bower. Bower went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. With the win, Toronto pushed its record to 23-16.
Josh Deer, who finished 3rd in the AL in slugging percentage with .588 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Deer contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Toronto up, 2-1.
In postgame comments to the Toronto Herald, Deer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
