Banks Crafts 3-0 Shutout Wednesday, June 5th , 1996 The Buffalo Bisons had no answer for Brooklyn Cyclones pitcher Phil Banks. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 3-0. Buffalo managed only 7 hits off Banks, who had 8 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Banks got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "Cyclones fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible." To date this season, Banks sports a 7-0 mark with a 1.48 ERA in 8 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .222 batting average and has 48 strikeouts in 60.2 innings. |
