Hit Parade: Shannon Gets Cycle
Wednesday, February 14th, 1979
Jason Shannon was jubilant as the Philadelphia College Foresters left the field with a 12-2 win over the Hialeah College Whiskeyjacks today. He had every right to be.

The 19-year-old left fielder hit for the cycle at Field of the Whiskeyjacks, had a 4-for-5 game and chalked up 2 RBI and 2 runs to boot.

"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Shannon said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."

Philadelphia College manager said he was "proud" of his left fielder's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.

"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," he said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."

Jason Shannon tripled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Mike Osborne in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

So far this year Shannon is batting .305 with 3 home runs.
