Lumber Kings Beat Steelheads, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring game between Lochsloy and Gary, pitcher Mike Alvarado was excellent. The Lochsloy right-hander helped his team knock off the Steelheads, 2-1. Ippolito Spuri came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 5-12. Arthur Evans collected his 5th save.
Had Gary Pierson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Pierson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Lumber Kings.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Alvarado. "Just do my job."
With the win, Lochsloy goes to 60-79, while the Steelheads fall to 50-89.
