OUT OF SIGHT: Matthew Sends 4 into Orbit
|
In what will surely go down as one of the greatest losing performances in baseball history, Barry Matthew of the Lower Allen Snappers hit 4 home runs yet saw his club defeated by the Kingston Pride.
Matthew ravaged Kingston pitching for a once-in-a-lifetime effort that somehow still wasn't enough to win the game. The Pride were victorious, 7-6.
"How do you get 4 home runs in one game and lose it?" he said after the game. "Honestly, I'm in a daze."
In the game, he went 4-for-4 with 4 runs scored and 6 RBIs.
"What he did was unbelievable," said Kingston manager Rafael Bueno. "My guys gave it their best, but he hit some fine pitches. He was like -- he was in an automatic home run mode today. He just had that great swing. It didn't matter what we threw him. It was gone."
Barry Matthew hit a two-run home run off Butch Land in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Butch Land in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Raleigh Wilson in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Evan Dolores in the 9th.
This season Matthew has banged out 8 hits in 30 at-bats for a .267 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .333 pace and his totals also include 10 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
