Fergus Falls Flugtag manager Ed Lee knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 23-year-old right-hander Steve Doyle silenced the host Langley Lakers at Villians Stadium today. The Flugtag shut out the Lakers by a final score of 5-0, to give the Flugtag a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

An impactful at-bat came in the top of the first inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the batter, Luis Contreras, hit a 2-run single. It made the score 2-0, Fergus Falls, and helped them go on to win.

"At least it was over quickly," Lakers manager Pedro González said. "We'll just have to try our luck again."
