The Oakland Redwood got a stellar performance from pitcher Víctor Robles, who handcuffed the Staten Island offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Ballpark of White Island Shores. Robles, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Paul Brown earned the save, his 15th, for the Redwood.
The Redwood took the lead in the bottom of the third. With one out, Robert Thompstone hit a 2-run home run off Staten Island pitcher Leonard Hubbard, putting Oakland in front, 4-1. For the game, Thompstone went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Thompstone said.
Oakland is 22-20 and Staten Island, with the loss, 20-22.
