The San Jose HS Princes beat the Boston HS Cavalry by a score of 8-1. San Jose HS shortstop Matthew Powell deserved the lion's share of the credit. Powell was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Princes. Buddy Hunt got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Russ Good, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.

Lawrence Johnson broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the second with a run-scoring single. It put the Princes in front, 2-1. For the game, Johnson was 4 for 5 with 4 singles.

"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Powell told the San Jose HS Gazette.

With the win, the Princes have a record of 7-7.
