The Phoenix HS Monarchs defeated the Boston HS Cavalry, 9-5. Doing his part was first baseman Shawn Johnson, who went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Mack Berry notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. The Monarchs got a lift from pinch hitter Scott Brown, who in the bottom of the seventh stroked a 2-2 slider into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Monarchs ahead, 6-5.
