Riding the 2-hit performance of the 15-year old second baseman Milton Shaw, the Portland HS Oilmen stopped the Houston HS Alpines, 4-1. Brian Wardlow, now 2-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 4.1 innings. The Oilmen now own a record of 13-16.
In the bottom of the fifth, Mike García delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Portland HS second baseman hit a run-scoring single, putting the Oilmen in front, 4-1.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Shaw told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
