Night Train Score Late, Upend Monkeys, 5-3
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Seattle HS Monkeys home opener. Bill Wells started for the home team against Marvin Reed for the Atlanta HS Night Train. The Monkeys were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 5-3, Atlanta HS. Bill Wells, though, was impressive.
Atlanta HS used the timely hitting of Tim O'Higgins to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Night Train on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Atlanta HS manager Karst Walik. "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
