Segra Park did not lack for drama.

The Asheville Tourists could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jerry Davila into a win. Instead, the Columbia Fireflies prevailed, 3-2, in 11 innings. Davila threw 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs. Columbia is now 7-12.

When he batted in the bottom of the 11th, Bobby Shaw had a golden opportunity to change the game's outcome. Asheville pitcher Carlos Perez was determined not to let him. But with one out, Shaw hit a run-scoring single -- and the Fireflies had a suspense-filled triumph.

"We did the things it takes to win a ballgame," said Columbia manager Sam Myers.
