Despite a fine performance by first baseman Ryan Gilyard, the Fort Worth Cowboys (MIL) lost to the Akron Trojans (CIN), 8-5. Gilyard was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Picking up the save was Matt Cox, his 3rd. The first-place Trojans (CIN) have a one-game lead in their division.

John Sasseen came through with a big-time hit for Akron. The left fielder smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 8-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We came out aggressive," said Trojans (CIN) manager Mark Hallberg. "We came out swinging the bats."
