Loss to Cowboys (MIL) Extends Glendale Losing Streak
|
In a high-scoring contest between Fort Worth and Glendale, second baseman Ignacio Werst was a difference-maker. Werst, who is tied for 9th in the NL in runs scored with 22, distinguished himself in the 9-8 Fort Worth win. He was 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times. The winner was Fort Worth reliever Brian Peterson, now 1-2. The loser was Stephen Myer. Zach Woodworth closed the game out for Fort Worth, earning his 2nd save.
Ben Malpica came through for Fort Worth when he hit a run-scoring single in the top of the third. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a two-strike sinker to right field, staking his team to a 1-0 lead.
"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Kyle Dohy, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."
The win gives Fort Worth a season record of 21-18.
