Tuzzi Hits 3 Dingers, Yankees Win, 12-0
|
New York designated hitter Donzel Tuzzi helped his team beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 12-0. Tuzzi, who finished 5th in the NL in runs with 111 last year, went 3 for 4 for the Yankees. David Martino, the winner, improved to 1-2. He held Toronto to no runs on 3 hits over 8.2 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. New York is now 36-80, Toronto 46-71.
Tuzzi had no bigger at-bat than in the bottom of the second when the 11-year veteran hit a 2-run home run. The home run gave New York the lead, 4-0. It was his 3rd home run of the season.
Toronto manager Ray Hernandez was on the defensive afterward. "You can go back and make us look as bad as you want to," he told a reporter, "and then I can throw more numbers at you and make us look better."
