The home crowd had a good time watching the Essendon Knights and Canterbury Bulldogs get after it.
Essendon got a big-time effort from pitcher Les Waycott, but it wasn't enough to keep the Canterbury Bulldogs from winning the game, 3-1. Waycott threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Canterbury reliever Vinnie Burge picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Matthew Westaway was saddled with the loss. Erich Morrall earned the save, his 14th, for the Bulldogs.
Canterbury took a 2-1 lead on Silas Perrin's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Perrin hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Essendon pitcher Matthew Westaway visibly frustrated.
"What we get, we earn," Perrin told the Canterbury News.
The 7th-place Bulldogs lifted their record to 27-28.
