Newcastle picked up a win at Paramatta Fields, toppling the Parramatta Giants, 6-5. Pitcher Herb Bartholomew was one of the reasons the Bombers triumphed. Kevin Firkins, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits. Benny Scanlan collected save number 1.

Newcastle used a clutch hit from Rafael Pichardo to get the win. The shortstop drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Bombers ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Feels good to be on the winning side," said Pichardo.

The Bombers improved to 29-30.
