Bombers Edge Dragons, 2-1
|
The Newcastle Bombers did just enough to secure a victory over the St. George Dragons, 2-1, at Newcastle Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Ray Strachan. Newcastle is 6th in the National League with a record of 31-32.
Darby Wellington was the walk-off hero for Newcastle. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Bombers right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Wellington said.
