The North Sydney Bears got a superb performance from pitcher Rafael Topp, but the Melbourne Demons still won the game, 5-4. Topp threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. Melbourne reliever Norm Riethmuller picked up the win, upping his record to 5-4. Luke Sarkies absorbed the loss. The Demons improve their record to 32-37 with the win over North Sydney.

Melbourne won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With no outs and Luke Sarkies on the mound for North Sydney, second baseman Keary Aves hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Demons fans to their feet.

In postgame remarks, Aves simply said: "Here's to a great win!"
