Sharks Get Past Melbourne for 2-1 Win
Punt Road Park was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

The Melbourne Demons got a sterling performance from pitcher Decker Cartmell, but the Cronulla Sharks still prevailed, 2-1. Cartmell threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Graeme Humphreys. He is now 3-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings.

Cronulla used a clutch hit from John Elkington to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sharks ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Elkington told a Cronulla Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

Cronulla leads the Waratah League by 3½ games.
