In a low-scoring tilt between the Melbourne Demons and the Cronulla Sharks, Denan Stares was the difference-maker. The Melbourne right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 win. Melbourne bumps their record to 34-40 with the win.

Melbourne took a 1-0 lead on Colin Fraser's 23rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Fraser hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Cronulla pitcher Lou Renshaw shaking his head.
