Denan Stares never let the Giants get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Demons to a win, 4-1. Melbourne occupies 8th place in the National League at 39-45.

The Demons got a big at-bat from right fielder Jose Ruiz. For the game, Ruiz was 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 22nd double of the season gave Melbourne a 2-0 lead.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Melbourne manager Sean Morgan. "It's usually not just one thing."
