Bears Squelch Giants Offense in Shutout Win
|
The North Sydney Bears got a magnificent effort from pitcher Rafael Topp, who kept Parramatta hitters in check en route to a 3-0 Bears win at North Sydney Park. Topp, the winner, moves to 3-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. The win puts North Sydney at 11-9.
Conrad Verberne dealt the Giants a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with runners on 1st and 3rd and North Sydney leading 1-0, Verberne, who is tied for 4th in the WL in home runs with 5, hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Verberne said after the game.
