In a low-scoring affair between the Melbourne Demons and the Collingwood Magpies, pitcher Darren Hulland was the difference between victory and defeat. The Melbourne left-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 Demons win. The winning pitcher was Hulland, now 6-8. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 3. Norm Riethmuller got the save, his 21st in 24 chances.

Melbourne took a 3-1 lead on Everton Leaper's 27th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Leaper hit in the top of the seventh, left Collingwood pitcher Brycen Rose visibly frustrated.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Demons manager Sean Morgan, "I like our chances."

With the victory, the Demons record now stands at 42-50.
