Morrall, Blues Beat Saints, 9-2
|
The Carlton Blues defeated the St. Kilda Saints, 9-2, at Princes Park today. Leading the charge for Carlton was first baseman Michael Morrall. He went 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Mark Finlay, credited with the win, is now 1-3. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. Carlton, at 57-40, is 6½ games up in the National League.
The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the fifth inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and St. Kilda trailing 2-0, Mark Finlay needed to get a big out. On a 2-1 fastball, Billy Rigden, who finished 3rd in the NL in batting average with .304 in 2019, flied out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
