Lees, Blues Beat Saints, 7-4

The Carlton Blues beat the St. Kilda Saints, 7-4, at Princes Park. The win was due in part to second baseman Mick Lees, who was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs. Michael Ferguson got the win, improving to 9-5. He worked 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Gerald Cardell earned his 24th save in 28 chances.
With Carlton leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Lees hit a 2-run single off St. Kilda hurler Layne Tinsley. It was the 73rd hit of the season for Lees and put his team ahead, 6-3.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Lees told the Carlton Gazette.
Carlton is now 58-40, 6½ games up in the National League.
