Leichhardt Oval was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
The Penrith Panthers got a sterling performance from pitcher Dayle Lowen, but the Wests Tigers still prevailed, 2-1. Lowen threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Reliever Frank Coughlan picked up the win. His record improves to 3-3. Dayle Lowen took the loss. Win Cantrill sewed up the save, his 20th.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when center fielder Davin Gilder, who is rated as the 19th best prospect by BNN, hit a triple. The Tigers went on to win.
Afterward, Tigers manager Eddie Komrska was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
At 46-60, the Tigers claim 8th place in the Waratah League.
