The Newcastle Bombers faced a tough opponent in Melbourne pitcher Matthew Adam, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Punt Road Park by a final score of 5-4. Adam went 7 innings and allowed 4 runs. With the win, Newcastle pushed its record to 62-59.

Darrin Dalley, the former first round draft pick , had a direct impact on the outcome. Dalley contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Newcastle up, 5-4.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Melbourne manager Sean Morgan. "But we decided not to take it."
