There was no shortage of dramatics at Canberra Stadium.

The Canberra Raiders had to overcome a fine effort from Essendon pitcher Damien Sarkies to grab a narrow 6-5 win at Canberra Stadium. Sarkies went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win elevated the Raiders to 18-18.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Canberra trailing 5-4, Herb Pethick hit a splitter from Phil Coupland to left for a 2-run double. Just like that, the Raiders had a walk-off win.

"We found a way to get it done," Pethick said.
