Pitcher Ray Strachan was rock solid in helping the Newcastle Bombers beat the Collingwood Magpies, 3-1. Bradford Thomson earned the save, his 2nd, for the Bombers. The Bombers, now 3-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Newcastle relied on the hitting of Rowland Whiffin to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put the Bombers on top, 1-0. For the game, Whiffin had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"We played hard and won," said Strachan. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
