Starting pitcher Ray Strachan did his part in helping the Newcastle Bombers thwart the Melbourne Demons, 3-1. The winning pitcher was Strachan, now 4-2. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Bradford Thomson closed it out for his 8th save.

The Bombers got an important contribution from left fielder Danny Newham, who in the bottom of the third punched a 1-1 changeup into left for a solo home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Bombers ahead, 2-0.

"Bottom line," said Melbourne skipper Sean Morgan, "we didn't play well enough to win."

The 5th-place Bombers have won 4 consecutive games.
