Everything was working for Diogo Gies today at Victoria Park. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The cutter was working.

In an unforgettable performance, the 29-year-old Gies fanned 15 Magpies and sparked the Canberra Raiders to a 3-0 victory over Collingwood. He left Magpies hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.

"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Canberra manager Richard Hager. "His location and command were really something."

In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 8 innings, Gies allowed 2 hits and 1 walk in a superlative outing.

"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Gies said with a smile.

This year Gies has fashioned a 14-6 mark, 2.32 ERA and pitched 174.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .170 against him and he has logged 282 strikeouts.
